| | In 2002, would you believe it?, my application for a Bolivian visa was inexplicably rejected. 3 years later, in 2005, almost with no hope, I tried to apply again. Lo and behold, I was awarded the visa this time.
So, you can imagine how much I treasure being in Bolivia. Nearly always at 3000-4000+m, I told myself to take it easy... From gasping at astounding sceneries like Lago Titicaca and Cordillera Blanca to running along Isla del Sol at 3800+m (blown by the wind, that's why!), marvelling at the costumes and repetitive swirling dances of indigenous locals in La Paz, examining ancient ruins and symbols at Tiwanaku, measuring dinosaur footprints against my own at Torotoro near Cochabamba, collecting cow-dung with my host (don't ask) in Sucre, having dynamites blasted while still in the silver mines in Potosi, and careening across the largest saltpan in the world at Salar de Uyuni. My my, that wasn't so bad, was it?
Special thanks to Henry, Lloyd, Emmanuelle, Alexis, Renaud for their great company while traipsing around this immensely gorgeous and culturally deep country and to Wolfgang and family for letting me stay in their beautiful house. |
