Chile is truly wild nature! From the very very cold (Southern Patagonia), to the very very hot (central Chile and Argentina), to the very very cold again (the altiplano in northern Chile), I had to alternate between extreme temperature changes and high altitudes like a yo-yo throughout my stay in 2003.

There were many physical challenges that I did that I had thought them impossible to achieve. It made me aware how, if I set my mind to do certain things, they CAN be done. In 2003, after spending New Year's Day (nearly) at the end of the world in Punta Arenas, I headed to Puerto Natales and prepared for the hike to Torres del Paine Nationa Park. I survived the hike and later, the climb up Villarrica volcano. Just barely, but I survived.

I received a brief insight in the lives of the locals in the quaint Chiloe island. Later, I met a Vina del Mar family vacationing in Villarrica and formed a solid friendship with them ever since.

Up north, the natural sights around San Pedro de Atacama are purely out-of-the-world, almost like walking on another planet. Parque Nacional Lauca near Arica brought me from sea-level to around 4,800+m above sea level of the magical 'altiplano' in 1 day.

In 2005, I returned briefly to Chile, stopped at La Serena and went to an observatory to study the craters of the moon. I also revisited my wonderful Vina del Mar family there.

Special thanks to Jessica, Katya, Fabiola, Adriana, Sebastian, Enrique, Claudio and family, Alejandra for confusing me with their Chilean accent!

Similarly done in the style of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude', i.e. magical realism, but with her feminine touch and perhaps, a tad less rambling, this narration is a thoroughly engaging epic, chronicling the very convoluted lives and times of many generations of the Trueba family.

The first book that I completed in Spanish. Gosh, what a lovely, lovely book, chronicling matter-of-factly the extremely unusual life experiences of Eva Luna. When you finish the book, you want to be an Eva!

May 28, 2005 - Jan 1, 2006 (219 days)

I made an impromptu return back to South America, starting with my gorgeous second city - Buenos Aires.

I meandered up the coast of Brazil, headed upriver into the Amazon before bursting out to Venezuela for some Caribbean sun.

Then, I crossed to Colombia, meeting amazingly friendly people and headed south through Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, encountering wonderful indigneous cultures and stunning landscapes.

A short hop to Chile to visit some old friends and then, back to Buenos Aires to spend Christmas and New Year.

Apr 27, 2002 - Apr 26, 2003 (365 days)

It's great to be a little unnerved by new countries, new experiences, new currencies, new languages, new food, new ways of doing the same things... I love it.

After plucking up the courage to resign from my job, from Singapore, I made my first hop to China, then north across to Mongolia and took the train through Russia. I then journeyed to Western Europe to meet up with some friends.

I flew across the Atlantic to Brazil next, before overlanding to Argentina and wandered up the length of Argentina and Chile up to Peru, being turning back to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I headed to Mexico and made an unexpected stop in Cuba, then, I crossed the other large ocean mass, the Pacific, from Los Angeles in USA to the beautiful French Polynesian Islands. Then, it's off to HOME...

Gosh, had it been a year already!?!!
